The firm was incorporated in 1898. Among the many independent companies which became part of The International Silver Company are: Barbour Silver Co, Derby Silver Co, Meriden Britannia Co, Middletown Plate Co, W. Rogers Mfg.Co.Ltd, Rogers & Bro, Rogers, Smith & Co, Watrous Mfg.Co., Webster & Son, Wilcox Britannia Co, William Rogers Mfg Co and many others.
The firm was the world's largest manufacturer of silverware. It ceased holloware production in 1976 selling the holloware business to Oneida in 1981.
