The firm was established in 1866 by Edward T. and Joseph P. Howard.
From 1890 to the early 20th century Joseph Platt Howard and his son Montague Howard were associated with the firm.
The firm was active in the shop in Fifth Avenue, New York and branches were opened in Newport and London.
From 1895 to 1897 Arthur J. Stone maintained a partnership with Joseph Platt Howard and supplied a variety of items to the firm. In 1897 Stone left the partnership and began his activity in Gardiner (Ma).
In addition to the production of its own wares Howard & Co was a renowned dealer and collector of antique silver.
The last information about Howard & Co activity dates to 1922.
