The firm was founded in 1859 as Mappin & Co, changing to Mappin & Webb in 1863.
In 1898 the firm was transformed in Mappin & Webb Ltd, absorbing Mappin Brothers in 1903.
In 1963 Mappin & Webb, with Elkington & Co Ltd and Walker & Hall Ltd, was amalgamated in British Silverware Ltd.
Sheffield factory was closed in 1971.
