According to tradition, the founder of the business was John McFarlane proprietor in 1796 of a watchmaker's shop in Salem.
The company, heir of the tradition of Salem craftsmen, in present days isn't directly involved in the silver manufacture but always sold designs made by the finest of American silversmiths including the trophy known as Davis Cup.
