A.D. Norton and Gorham silver spoons (5) - USA

There are two different types of marks pictured on the fiddle- end teaspoon submitted by reader Giorgio Busetto. The retailer for the spoon was the firm of A. D. Norton and is represented as an incuse mark. The manufacturer of the spoon was the Gorham Company, and is represented by their manufacturer’s mark. The Gorham mark pictured on the spoon, with the lion facing right, was not in use until after 1865 (Rainwater and Redfield’s Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers), long after the Goshen, Connecticut silversmith A. D. Norton was active. So additional research needs to be done to determine where the retail location( s) for the A. D. Norton firm were.
