A SMALL COLLECTION OF ANTIQUE SILVER AND OBJECTS OF VERTU |
silver mirror - Englandthis is a silver mirror hallmarked Chester (England) 1911, silversmith WJM & Co. (W J Myatt & Co Ltd-Birmingham) The mirror is embossed on the back and on the handle with an unusual motif of flowers and butterflies, It is 11 in. long (cm. 28) and was bought from an Italian dealer in an Antique Market. TEN YEARS LATER This mirror has an accompanying brush belonging to a quite similar toilet set, but marked Birmingham 1908. This is the brief 'history' of the mirror and the brush now in my collection. The brush was bought in an Antique Fair in 1996. It was accompanied by a matching mirror that I renounced to buy as the price requested was too expensive. In the following years the renounce to buy the mirror was motif of disappointment for me. But, in 2006, in an antique market, I found (and bought) 'the mirror' lost ten years before. I don't believe that this is the 1996 mirror (the maker is the same, but dates and assay offices are different), but now my brush has its accompanying mirror. |
