HALLMARKS OF ITALIAN SILVER
(LATE 19TH AND 20TH CENTURY)

This is a selection of marks used by Italian silversmiths of the 20th century.
The use of a 'factory mark' is a practice scarsely followed by Italian silversmiths and usually the identification of the maker relies only on the 'number' introduced in 1935 on the 'lozenge mark'.
In this page I present some marks of Italian factories and the links to a wide directory of Italian silversmiths of the 20th century, sorted by province.

GRASSI LUIGI - Milano Mark MI 208 Factory marks (eagle inside an octagon and rampant lion?) were used beside the lozenge mark with 208MI and fascio. A stylized GP and point monogram was also used (may be the sign of the designer: Gio Ponti?) The mark belongs to a rectangular silver tray made about 1940.

12		BULGARI GIOIELLI SPA - Roma Mark RM 1250 (from 5 April 2000) another mark Bulgari Italia spa RM 745 from 1 October 1988 The mark belongs to a sterling silver bowl with a coin of Ancient Rome on the bottom (circa 1990)
13		FROV Fabbriche Riunite Oreficerie Vicentine - Vicenza A consortiun founded c. 1907. From 1935 the firm used the mark 8 VI at Mura San Michele 11, Vicenza as BOSCARO GIOVANNI (F.R.O.V.). In 1955 the firm was active at the same address as FABBRICHE RIUNITE OREFICERIE VICENTINE - BERETTA GIULIO and went out of business before 1971
