SIMONS BRO & CO - Philadelphia, PA Established in 1840 by John F. Simons and his three sons (John F., Frederick M. and Edwin S.) the firm was joined some years later by his brother Peter B. Simons. In 1861 c. Thomas Maddock and S.B. Opdyke entered in the business and the firm changed its name to Simons Bro. Opdyke & Co. After the retirement of Opdyke and of the elder Simons the business was continued under the name of Simons Bro. & Co.. In 1892 they bought Vansant Silver Co Ltd. Flatware patterns and dies were sold to Alvin Mfg Co in 1908 |

| H. FRED SKAGGS - Scottsdale, AZ active from 1956 in the Lloyd Kiva Craft Center, Pomona, AZ. Skaggs inspired an entire generation of celebrated and highly respected silversmiths as Charles Loloma, the noted Native American Hopi silversmith. His jewelry designs were of both silver and gold, usually incorporating gemstones. Skaggs died in 1982 but the shop continued to operate under his name to the 2000s. |

PEER SMED - Brooklyn, NY Peer Smed (1878 - 1943) was a Danish-American silversmith and metalworker, active in New York City. Born in Copenhagen (his name was Peer Schmidt) he immigrated to the United States where in 1909 he established his workshop at 176 Johnson Street, Brooklyn. There he produced handcrafted silver and metalwork until late in his life when he moved to 30 Irving Place in New York City. Peer Smed was the father of Lona Schaeffer, who worked in his workshop and continued his activity |

FRANK W. SMITH SILVER CO INC - Gardner, MA Frank W. Smith was trained as a silversmith by his uncle, William Durgin, and opened his own shop in 1886, making sterling silver flatware. His business grew rapidly, and the factory was completed in 1892. Smith hired Arthur J. Stone, a Scottish silversmith, as a lead designer and supervisor, and also began producing handcrafted products as well as machine-made ones. The business continued under a succession of owners until 1958. |

SPAULDING & CO origin in 1855 as S. Hoard & Co. In 1888 was formed a corporation between Gorham Mfg Co and Henry A. Spaulding for the manufacture and retail of watches, clocks, jewelry, diamonds silverware and silverplated ware. At that time was took over N. Matson & Co. The business was bought by Gorham Mfg.Co in 1920 changing its name in Spaulding-Gorham Inc. The name was changed in Spaulding & Co in 1943 when the firm was purchased by Gordon Lang. |
